I was blinded in one eye in 1980 during a mugging and fell into a long depression. I started using drugs and alcohol and lost my job. I lost 20 years of my life. Then, in 2009, I was referred to Alliance for a job opening at BWI Airport. Alliance took a chance with me. A lot of people had given up on me. I had given up on myself. I wasn’t able to believe I could achieve anything. Now I have so much hope that I’m overflowed with it… Alliance believed in me. Alliance has enriched my life so much - not so much the money aspect, but this job has kept me away from drinking and drugging. My 76 year old mother and 82 year old father have had a chance to see the best out of me - that I’m doing things with my life other than destroying it. This is the most peace and stability I’ve had since I was a child. If I live to be 100, I hope to still be working for Alliance. The sky’s the limit.
After surviving an abusive relationship, living through some life-threatening situations and facing homelessness, I was directed to Alliance to seek some help. During this very dark period, I recall my children and me being hungry and needing a safe place to lay our heads. It is hard to put into words, the appreciation I have for Alliance, who has gifted to my family, guidance, confidence, and support! Alliance helped us to break down some barriers through a tough time, so that we could become a family!
